Maria "Macky" Rodriguez – Director Rice Village
Ms. Rodriguez received her bachelor's degree in Early Child Development in 1986 and began to teach in Venezuela at that time. Maria, commonly known as "Macky," brings over 25 years of teaching experience to the Crossing Borders team.
While in Venezuela, Ms. Rodriguez taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, and elementary for 18 years. Since living in the United states, Maria has taught bilingual kindergarten and has taught Spanish both to children and to adults.
Ms. Maria is currently the Director of our Rice Village Preschool and the Director of the after school programs at our Unity location.
Maria is also experienced in dance, cooking, arts and crafts. She has written and published several different Spanish books and programs including Spanish Mommy and Me, Spanish Summer, Winter and Spring Camps, Spanish Enrichment (afterschool) classes, and Spanish Immersion for adults and for children. Macky says that she enjoys her job because she teaches her students Spanish in creative ways.
To encourage her students, Macky says, "If I can learn English, anyone can learn Spanish!"
Carmen Campos – Spanish Instructor
Ms. Campos has over 27 years teaching as an educator to children ages preschool.
She graduated from Pedagogical University of San Luis Potosí, MX with a Bachelor degree in Education. She worked at various kindergarten schools located in México and also taught as an bilingual teacher in Keeble EC-PK for two years.
Ms. Campos believes that learning a foreign language in the preschool is an essential part of a child´s education and development. Ms. Campos goal is to prepared "Crossing Borders kids" to live and work in a global context.
Ms. Campos mission is: "Our children are the leaders of the future; for this reason always maintain the importance of being excellent educational models".
Qing Sui-Turner – Mandarin Instructor
Ms. Qing graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Shenyang musical college and Dongbei Normal University as a musical education major in China. Ms. Qing worked as a musical teacher for an adult Education University for 20 years in China.
Ms. Qing currently resides in Houston. She has over 5 years of experience in teaching Chinese Mandarin, which consists of Pre-K, after school and Chinese school. This is Ms. Qing's second school year with Crossing Borders in our Mandarin Preschool.
